One of the most effective ways I’ve used to keep newly formed habits is to routinize them, or work them into my daily routine. For instance, I’m a bit of a fit bit freak, so to get my 10,000 steps and 10 flights of stairs in a day, I worked in times in my daily routine that I get it done. When I get to work, I make my coffee, and while it’s percolating, I start stepping, then do my stairs, then reward myself with the coffee. I then take short breaks during the day where I walk around the hotel across the street. During meetings, I wear a headset, so I can mute myself and get up and pace. Pretty soon, my steps and stairs are done.
